I Was Born Gay - God Made Me That Way

I have heard or read it quite often, "I was born gay... God made me this way"... thinking to myself, who has corrupted your mind and who has led you astray to believe such a lie? It sure wasn't God! As I sat at my desk across from a young lady who is a lesbian, she explained to me that there was no doubt she was born a lesbian. She stated that she knew this because she would never have made the choice herself to be a lesbian. She would have never chosen a life where she is ridiculed and belittled. Astounded, I could not understand why someone would not change from a lifestyle they would not have chosen, but her thinking is that it is the only way she can be happy, even though she would not have chosen this lifestyle herself.

Yes, I have read about the superficial scientific proof that some people are born homosexual. However, there is a lot of false and misleading information on the Internet and in print. If you continue researching, there is also evidence that disputes the claimed scientific proof, stating that the evidence is tainted. There are also scientific studies showing there is no genetic proof of sexual orientation. There is about as much one way as there is the other. Nonetheless... even if it were the case that a person was born with homosexual genes, it does not force that person to carry out homosexual activity... it is still a choice that person has to make.

Those who refuse to change their sinful lifestyle seek approval for their sin and are going to cling to anything they can to justify their sin. Furthermore, some even try to get others to believe God approves of it. I was reading an article written by a self-proclaimed gay Christian. He wrote about how he searched and searched the various religious organizations that would accept homosexuals and was having trouble finding any. However, he found one small religious group of his preference that approved the homosexual lifestyle. His searching is no different from denominationalism, where people seek a church that teaches what they want to hear or what men have taught them for most of their lives. I wonder if he ever gave it any thought that the reason he had such a difficult time finding a religious group to accept homosexuals is because it is sinfully wrong.

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths. (2 Timothy 4:3,4)

THESE PEOPLE DRAW NEAR TO ME WITH THEIR MOUTH, AND HONOR ME WITH THEIR LIPS, BUT THEIR HEART IS FAR FROM ME. AND IN VAIN THEY WORSHIP ME, TEACHING AS DOCTRINES THE COMMANDMENTS OF MEN. (Matthew 15:8,9)

Some homosexuals say they can not change because they were born the way they are, yet there are well-known cases of homosexuals changing their sexual orientation and are no longer homosexual. This fact severely diminishes any suggestion that there is a genetic cause for homosexuality. Some clearly state they chose to be homosexual and were not born the way they are. I suppose there is a debate among homosexuals themselves as to how they became the way they are... in some cases depending on whether they believe in God. How convenient.

Either way, the Internet, misleading books, and superficial scientific studies have not been around for near as long as the Bible, nor are they inspired by God... and the Bible clearly and accurately shows that not one person has ever been born homosexual. I will trust in God before I will trust in man.

It is better to trust in the LORD Than to put confidence in man. (Psalms 118:8)

Even with all the false information being taught, I have difficulty grasping how someone can get these distorted thoughts brainwashed into their minds and why they choose to deny God and the Truth. Yet, it happens more often than not in many lifestyles that people choose to live. They attempt to justify their lifestyle by claiming God made them the way they are. We cannot blame our sins on someone else, especially God. God does not cause a person to be tempted and sin.

Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him. Let no one say when he is tempted, "I am tempted by God"; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone. But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death. Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren. (James 1:12-16)

Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world-the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life-is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever. (1 John 2:15-17)

The soul who sins shall die. The son shall not bear the guilt of the father, nor the father bear the guilt of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself. (Ezekiel 18:20)

If you suggest you are born gay or lesbian, you imply that God is a liar... and we know God does not lie.

God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good? (Numbers 23:19)

Thus God, determining to show more abundantly to the heirs of promise the immutability of His counsel, confirmed it by an oath, that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us. (Hebrews 6:17,18)

Paul, a bondservant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God's elect and the acknowledgement of the truth which accords with godliness, in hope of eternal life which God, who cannot lie, promised before time began, (Titus 1:1,2)

If God does not lie, and clearly He does not... then it is impossible for Him to cause someone to be tempted... and much less to cause someone to act on that temptation and commit sin. Instead, God says that temptation and sin come when a person is "drawn away by" their "own desires." "Then, when desire had conceived, it gives birth to sin." Sin is a choice... a choice that cannot be made when you are a baby or a very young child.

Then Jesus called a little child to Him, set him in the midst of them, and said, "Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 18:2,3)"

But Jesus said, "Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven." (Matthew 19:14)

You were perfect in your ways from the day you were created, Till iniquity was found in you. (Ezekiel 28:15)

We are innocent until we reach the age of accountability and understand the choice between right and wrong.

A person is not subject to the law of God until he or she is mature enough to understand and to be responsible for behavior. (Dave Miller: Apologetics Press - The Age of Accountability)

Not one soul has ever been or ever will be born in the sin of homosexuality or any other sin for that matter. Homosexuality is a choice that is made when the desire to commit a homosexual act is conceived and becomes a sin.

If the reasoning that someone would not choose to be a homosexual because that person would not choose to be ridiculed and belittled, it would also be true that Christians would not choose to be Christians because Christians are persecuted.

Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. (2 Timothy 3:12)

If you live a faithful Christian life and proclaim God as you should, then you will be opposed, you will be ridiculed, and you will be persecuted. There are people who are just as hateful to Christians as they are towards homosexuals. Outspoken homosexuals persecute Christians for exposing their sin. Naturally, those who are determined to live as they please do not like for their conduct to be called into question. They believe some Christians hate homosexuals. Not so... a real Christian does not hate a person... they hate the sin. God hates sin!

Those trying to get homosexuality accepted religiously will even twist and malign the Scriptures in an attempt to say homosexuality is not a sin. Yet, God could not have made it any more straightforward and definitive... homosexuality is a grievous sin indeed. It is an abomination!

You shall not lie with a male as with a woman. It is an abomination. Nor shall you mate with any animal, to defile yourself with it. Nor shall any woman stand before an animal to mate with it. It is perversion. 'Do not defile yourselves with any of these things; for by all these the nations are defiled, which I am casting out before you. For the land is defiled; therefore I visit the punishment of its iniquity upon it, and the land vomits out its inhabitants. You shall therefore keep My statutes and My judgments, and shall not commit any of these abominations, either any of your own nation or any stranger who dwells among you (for all these abominations the men of the land have done, who were before you, and thus the land is defiled), lest the land vomit you out also when you defile it, as it vomited out the nations that were before you. (Leviticus 18:22-28)

And you shall keep My statutes, and perform them: I am the LORD who sanctifies you. 'For everyone who curses his father or his mother shall surely be put to death. He has cursed his father or his mother. His blood shall be upon him. 'The man who commits adultery with another man's wife, he who commits adultery with his neighbor's wife, the adulterer and the adulteress, shall surely be put to death. The man who lies with his father's wife has uncovered his father's nakedness; both of them shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them. If a man lies with his daughter-in-law, both of them shall surely be put to death. They have committed perversion. Their blood shall be upon them. If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination. They shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them. If a man marries a woman and her mother, it is wickedness. They shall be burned with fire, both he and they, that there may be no wickedness among you. If a man mates with an animal, he shall surely be put to death, and you shall kill the animal. If a woman approaches any animal and mates with it, you shall kill the woman and the animal. They shall surely be put to death. Their blood is upon them. (Leviticus 20:8-16)

So, as much as is in me, I am ready to preach the gospel to you who are in Rome also. For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, "THE JUST SHALL LIVE BY FAITH." For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man-and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things. Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due. And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them. (Romans 1:15-32)

For some men, straying from these things, have turned aside to fruitless discussion, wanting to be teachers of the Law, even though they do not understand either what they are saying or the matters about which they make confident assertions. But we know that the Law is good, if one uses it lawfully, realizing the fact that law is not made for a righteous person, but for those who are lawless and rebellious, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers and immoral men and homosexuals and kidnappers and liars and perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound teaching, according to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, with which I have been entrusted. (1 Timothy 1:6-11)

Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God. (1Corinthians 6:9-11)

Outspoken homosexuals, even some with the audacity to call themselves Christians, will have an answer for every one of these passages. It is the only way they can attempt to justify their sinful lifestyle. God planned for them and had something to say about their misguided thinking.

Therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless; and consider that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation-as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, has written to you, as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which untaught and unstable people twist to their own destruction, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures. You therefore, beloved, since you know this beforehand, beware lest you also fall from your own steadfastness, being led away with the error of the wicked; but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen. (2Peter 3:14-18)

The conclusion is this: every time homosexual behavior is mentioned, it is condemned. The Bible is not homophobic (i.e., obsessively hostile toward homosexuality), but it clearly treats heterosexuality as normative (1 Corinthians 7; Ephesians 5; 1 Peter 3; et al.). These unsuccessful attempts to reinterpret the Bible's teaching on the subject raise an even more crucial question: What Scripture can be presented that legitimizes homosexuality? (Brad Bromling: Apologetics Press - Does the Bible Approve of Homosexuality?)

Homosexuality is condemned, and there is certainly no authorization for it.

And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. (Colossians 3:17)

No one is going to find any authorization for homosexuality in the Bible.

God created man and woman for each other, not man for man and woman for woman. God only authorized marriage between a man and a woman. The only authorization for sexual relations between two individuals is in marriage, not outside of marriage.

So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth." (Genesis 1:27,28)

Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. (Genesis 2:24)

Nevertheless, because of sexual immorality, let each man have his own wife, and let each woman have her own husband. (1 Corinthians 7:2)

God never has and never will approve of same-sex relations ... homosexuality. You cannot get there from God's Word.

The young lady that sat across from my desk said I was judging her, and according to the Bible, I was not supposed to judge her. Of course, I explained to her that I was not judging her; the Word of God is what judges her and is what will judge her on the Day of Judgment. It seemed a bit ironic that she wanted the protection of God's Word but did not want to study or live by it.

And if anyone hears My words and does not believe, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world. He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words, has that which judges him- the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day. (John 12:47,48)

Many will take what Jesus said in Matthew 7 out of context and claim that we cannot judge others. No one can ultimately judge someone to heaven or hell; no one can do this other than God. The final judgment will only occur in the end and will be the sole responsibility of God and His Word. However, we have to be able to judge right and wrong. Our responsibility as Christians is to judge righteously. We can not stop at verse 2 of chapter 7... we have to read it in the entire context of what Jesus was explaining. If we have a plank in our own eye, we certainly cannot take the splinter out of our brother's eye. If we are living right, walking in the light, then we must follow the commands of God, judge righteously, and share with those who do not know God... with those who are lost... with those who are walking in darkness... including homosexuals.

Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted. (Galatians 6:1)

I have said it and written it on many occasions... do we really love one another if we say nothing about each other's sin and look the other way? No... absolutely not! Why? Because we are saying that we are okay with that person being destined to hell according to God's Word. We love each other when we care enough about each other to help one another recognize and repent of sin. As Christians, we are commanded to obey God... and this is how we know we love one another.

By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep His commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome. (1 John 5:2,3)

And if we love one another and obey the commandments of God, then we will go to that brother or sister in sin and help them.

Brethren, if anyone among you wanders from the truth, and someone turns him back, let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death and cover a multitude of sins. (James 5:19,20)

We should apply that same principle to those who are not brothers and sisters in Christ. Loving someone is not looking the other way and allowing them to wallow in their sin to eternal damnation, which is precisely what the majority of people do.

We should be able to determine how someone is living their life in sin, or that what they are doing is sin, and make a judgment that we should share with them how they can have forgiveness of their sin. We should want them to repent and have eternal life... and not suffer the eternal consequences of their sinful lifestyle. It is our responsibility as Christians to share the Gospel with those who are lost. Consider what the Lord told Ezekiel.

Now it came to pass at the end of seven days that the word of the LORD came to me, saying, "Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel; therefore hear a word from My mouth, and give them warning from Me: When I say to the wicked, 'You shall surely die,' and you give him no warning, nor speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life, that same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood I will require at your hand. Yet, if you warn the wicked, and he does not turn from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but you have delivered your soul. "Again, when a righteous man turns from his righteousness and commits iniquity, and I lay a stumbling block before him, he shall die; because you did not give him warning, he shall die in his sin, and his righteousness which he has done shall not be remembered; but his blood I will require at your hand. Nevertheless if you warn the righteous man that the righteous should not sin, and he does not sin, he shall surely live because he took warning; also you will have delivered your soul." (Ezekial 3:16-21)

In many cases, when you try to help someone who is all wrapped up in sin, they are enjoying that sin so much, they will quickly claim you are judging them, and they do not want to hear how they are living or what they are doing is wrong. They do not want to change their lifestyle, so they think of anything to escape the truth and justify their sinful lifestyle.

As I sat across from the young lady and explained to her with the Scriptures how the lifestyle of homosexuality that she was living was sinful and the consequences of the same, she bowed her head as if in shame. Yet she responded that if eternal separation from God was her punishment for wanting happiness in this life, then so be it.

She has lived this lie and has been educated by liars and deceivers of Satan to the point that her conscience has become seared.

Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron, (1 Timothy 4:1,2)

Many parents have great difficulties dealing with their children and homosexuality. They do not want to admit that their child is living a sinful lifestyle, so they reach out to those in religious organizations that condone and approve of it. Many say that they love their child and will accept them as they are. I can only say that if you love your child, you will in no way approve of or encourage their sinful lifestyle. Instead, if you love them, you will pray for them and encourage them to stop their sinful lifestyle. You will consistently encourage them to repent... and you should never accept it. Loving them encourages them to stop sinning because, according to God's Word, they will not enter heaven if they die in their sin. You do not want them to die in their sin... and you do not want to approve of their sin, thereby making yourself guilty.

(Romans 1:24-32)

So how do I know anything about dealing with homosexual children? Our daughter is a lesbian, and the girl that sat across from me at my desk was her lesbian girlfriend. I love my daughter, but I will never approve of or support her sinful lifestyle... and I will never deny God's stance against this sin or any sin. I pray for her and hope that one day she will realize the error in her life, repent and come back to God (before it is too late), as she has been baptized into Christ and was once saved but has since fallen from grace. I pray that God will allow her the time to repent. Unfortunately, neither she nor her girlfriend fears God and the consequences of their sin. It is truly sad and hurts me deep inside when I think about it. I have cried on many occasions thinking about it and even while praying to God for her.

God and His Word teach us that a person can't be born homosexual... and God did not make anyone homosexual. Do not let the lies of Satan and his workers deceive you into believing otherwise. Seek the Truth... seek God's Word and do not listen to those who work iniquity.

And if it seems evil to you to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD. (Joshua 24:15)

God bless you!
